Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

Our pre School considers the holistic development of children in our planning.

We follow the children’s interest, therefore there may be a few different themes happening within the main focused theme.

We provide opportunities which enable children to;

Make choices, express ideas, reflect on experiences and information, share thoughts, make discoveries and explore and engage in first hand experiences.  Our curriculum is designed to be accessible for all children, regardless of any special educational need or disability.

Our allocation of time, space and equipment will provide opportunities for children to develop to their full potential, physically, linguistically, intellectually, emotionally, socially and morally. Through carefully planned activities we support and enhance the children’s learning ensuring they make good progress over time.

We plan various themes, however these change to accommodate the changing interests and  needs of the children.  So our long term plan is seen as a working document.

Various festivals are celebrated throughout the year, some of which will be relevant whereas others may be simply what is happening around the world. We also promote British values.

Our curriculum is organised around the seven areas of learning and development

• Communication and development

• Personal social and emotional development

• Physical development

• Literacy

• Numbers and shape

• Understanding the world

• Expressive arts and design

We have key time activities which again promote all the areas of learning but in a slightly more formal but fun way, often using resources like letters and sounds phase 1

Throughout the year we organise several exciting activities. Outside visitors are also welcomed to enhance the children’s learning. We visit the local church to perform our nativity.

In the last weeks of the term we focus on transitions and school readiness.

This is making sure the children are confident, sociable, independent and curious. This will help them to be ready for their next journey of learning.
